Electrical gremlin
Right was out giving the bike a check over tonight and noticed that when i put the brake on with either the lever or the pedal the clocks light up.
Surely this isn't right? Any ideas? |
Re: Eletrical gremlin
Not right,no.
I know from my experiences of a fuse blowing that the brake lights and instrument panel are on the same fuse. Might be worth checking the fuse to see if it's the correct one and not bigger. Should be 15amp (red). My brake light was blowing a fuse. It was down to a wire being chafed under the rear plastics. |
Re: Eletrical gremlin
The clocks don't light up completely just a little bit but then if i turn the lights on they're unaffected by the brake being put on
I hate doing electrics! :smt099 I'll check the fuses during the week, only just put it back together after doing the chain and sprockets |

But if the instrument lights are on (with the main lights on) how can you tell if they are affected by the brake light. |
Re: Eletrical gremlin
Check the earthing of the tail lamp. If it's dodgy it might be trying to earth itself back through the rear lamp filament and instruments if they're sharing a supply.

Re: Eletrical gremlin
Check the earths everywhere, they do some really wierd stuff if the clocks earth isn't right.

Hmmm just remembered that i've got a bit of a flakey LED bulb in the rear. I'll swap the bulbs over later see if that cures it |
Re: Eletrical gremlin
Right it's been a while since i origanlly posted this thread but after putting on my repsrayed bodywork i've noticed that the parking/side light comes on with the brakes as well.
Have checked the normal places for wire chaffing and found nothing, the fuses are the right ones. Does that still sound like bad earthing? |
Re: Eletrical gremlin
Yeah it's the first thing I'd check, try a simple test of putting a test current through the bulbs first maybe.
