What is it called?
There's an old fashioned toy. Its a lamp, and on the lampshade there are parts cut out. When the lampshade spins, the light comes through the cut outs and makes it look like, for example, a horse galloping. What the hell is the thing called? Does anyone know?

Re: What is it called?
I think what you're thinking of is a version of either a praxiniscope or a magic lantern zoetrope
See further down the page on the zoetrope link above for the magic lantern variety, or here: http://animatedcartoons.blogspot.com/ for a description of the praxiniscope 'Course, the kids toys probably had slightly zippier names than that... |
