The doubt I have is loads of people who have never ridden one keep saying I'll die horribly.

Dude if you want the bike, can afford it, then buy it Why not? I have my eye on a bike that I want at the moment, though the insurance was high for comp. Have to say if I can get the bike, then I will have it!
