SV1000 Clutch question.

Calling all SV1000 owners.

I've been to look at a used one with fairly high mileage (c25k). Has the wear and tear you'd expect around the enginne casings and fork lowers, but has a noise I do not get on my similar mileage Sv650.

The Clutch rattles. Pretty much the same noise you get from my stone-cold 650, but it's still there when it's warm. We're not talking Ducati style super-loud rattling, but just a rumbly rattle.

Bike cold or warm ticking over, clutch in in neutral, sounds fine. Release clutch and rumbling is aparent.

Has had it's oil changed every 3k miles, and had done c2.5k since last change.

Chain tension fine.

Has been used as a london commuter so expect the clutch/gearbox has taken more abuse than a weekend toy. The gear selector rubbers are smooth so it's had a lot of use.

Is this problem or just a "characteristic" of the 1000?

Cheers,
Mark

Re: SV1000 Clutch question.

When i got my 1000 i complained of engine noises but this mechanical noise is from what i am made to belive normal, mine does it with only 4k on the clock but its a different kind of noise regarding the clutch, its not really a rattle more of a whine on mine when the clutch lever is pulled in and let out. my old cbr600 had really bad cluch rattle something to do with the clutch basket on the honda and my dealer said it was totally normal.

Rich,

So does your cold engine clutch rattle in neutral go away when it's warm? Or are you entirely rattle-free?

No shake, rattle or roll, nothing, nada, nil, just nice purring sound, that is all,
