Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
Hi all
I just wanted to quickly check what the difference between O-Rings, and X-Rings are? I've been phoning around today for quotes on changing a chain and sprockets and keep getting different prices depdning on X/O types (ranging from 170 - 219 quid). I'm now thinking that getting a set of Ebay and paying someone local to do it will save loads, but I'm worried about buying crap ones. Would this ebay chain & sprocket be ok for a 2003 SV650S? Thanks in advance! Re: Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
Good evening.
Avoid the Iris chain at all costs, complete w@NK! DID VM chain is good, but lifespan will depend on the quality of sprockets used. I would go for Tsubaki 525SG or SGX if you want a gold finish, use JT steel sprockets. Available from yours truly, or B&C express. They're around ?110, or ?120 with the gold finish. Cheers. |
Re: Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
Hi Spannerman
Thanks very much for the tip on IRIS chains. I found this other one, with a JT sprocket (as you recommended), which I think I'll go for. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Suzuki-SV-650S...QQcmdZViewItem You are buying a Chain & sprocket set SLC Heavy Duty O ring & JT sprockets for a-- Suzuki SV650S 1999 - 2005 SLC O ring chain 525 X 108 front 15 rear 44 sprockets. |
Re: Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
Good morning.
I've only encountered one SLC chain, that a customer had purchased & wanted me to fit. It wasn't very impressive I'm afraid. It didn't last particularly well either. So I would rate it along with Iris, & other such cheaper makes. If you can't afford a Tsubaki SG chain, go for their APX chain. Which is what is recommended for the SV. The kit with steel sprockets is around ?95 from B&C. In the long run it would pay to have an SG chain if you can afford the extra. Cheers. |
Re: Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
Did you find out what the difference between X/O-rings were?
I'm wondering aswell. |
Re: Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
The difference between X- and O- ring is just down to the crosssection of the seals used in the chain, the pic from Iris shows the difference. X-ring is supposed to last better.
Spannerman, what do you think of the DID o-ring chains as fitted as standard? |
Re: Which type of chain and sprocket to get?
Hi all
Many thanks for the pointers on this. I went for an X-Ring in the end as most people reckoned that it would last longer... Ta Iain |
