Tescos - Helmet Removal

On sunday for the first time EVER I got asked to remove my helmet AFTER filling up.

I had filled up, then walked in and the old bint behind the till asked me to remove it.

I asked if she would ask a muslim to remove a full face veil to which she reckoned she would....... who should be stood 2 behind me in the que but woman in a full veil who then was not asked to remove her ****. :smt072

Now I could have gone in slipped my card in and been gone in seconds, However I then Had to remove my gloves, remove my glasses, remove my helmet, chase my ear plugs around the floor then hold all the stuff as she wouldnt let me put it on the counter. I was generally made a fool of whilst having to perform the akward act of removing everything and building a que of 8 people behind me.

I was FUMING and will therefore no longer use tesco fuel and go back to sainsburys who are 3p cheaper anyway.

RANT OVER

Get over yourself. Why not remove your helmet. The old muslim crap just doesnt wash. Its polite, simple as.

I was made to remove my heltet by a security guard in a tesco shop the other day, not a petorl station. i said im just getting a chocky leave me along, he said i have to. so i did. but i left the balaclava that i wear underneath on.
he came up to me with the most confused look on his face and i said, well ive taken off my helmet. :smt040

i didnt really mind, not sure how i would react in a petrol station mind, might just leave without paying :help:

i dont really see how it is polite or otherwise, its just a waste of time, becasue if i was going to rob the shop im not going to take it off. anyway, theyve got my bike regestration, unless its stolen, then i wouldnt be attempting to pay for the fuel anyway.
its just extra hassle that dosent achieve anything imo

Graeme, I know exactly what you mean ... I had a similar experience (although not quite so bad) at my local Tesco store just last week. There is a big sign on the window which can be clearly seen as you approach the "petrol shop" though which clearly says "Please remove your helmet as you enter the store" (ouch!) ... anyway, I know its there and so I always do ... however I placed my lid on the counter and the checkout operator says "oooh no, you can't put that there [then she points over her shoulder] she'll have a fit [pointing to the duty supervisor]" ... I was a bit stunned to actually do anything other than remove it and place it on the floor.

Thankfully, it was late evening and so no queue behind me ... but it's still irritating.

Thank god for "Pay @ Pump" ... although I have to say if you are using a Solo card Shell only allow you to take £10 of fuel!? WTF is that all about??? Not bad if you are on the bike, but my car takes 5 times that!!

Ok, my rant over with also ;-)

The point is a 2 minute stop turns into a 10 minute stop.......I'm stood there with my card in my hand ready to pay...... what is the fecking problem.

It rediculous and politeness has nothing to do with it. I'm there for petrol and nothing else.

Ok, just to play devils advocate for a minute ...

What if the card you were using was stolen?
They ask you to remove your helmet so that in-store cctv can capture an image of you (the potential card-abuser).

Now imagine that the biker who doesn't remove his helmet has just nicked YOUR card.

See what I'm saying?

;-)

Its a new tesco and new petrol station.....they dont even have signs saying no smoking/no mobiles let alone helmet related signs. Pay at pump wasnt an option or I generally use it.
