Can you trust the odometer?

Hey guys, going to check out (and very probably buy) a curvy 02 SV650s tomorrow and was wondering if you can believe the odo?

I know for old bikes if you take the speedo cable out it just stops clocking up miles, so you can have no idea how many its done. Is that doable on the 02 sv? Can it be wound back? If so, what signs should I be looking for, like how is it done?

Cheers! Hopefully I'll have a 'yay I've got an sv' thread tomorrow :)

You cannot wind the speedo head backwards.
The only way to get the miles off the speedo is to crack it open, the only sign to look for is if the numbers do not line up correctly, or to se signs of tampering around the speedo. apart from that I can't help.

How many miles is it showing on the odo?

32k kms

sooo I guess around 20k miles

Its a curvy so it has a digital odo reading.

Where does the speedo pick up the speed from? Like if you could just disconnect a sensor I'd assume that might work?

Unless your bikes got a full upto date service history:study: you'll never know 100%-its easy to change the clocks over on the sv but you'll need to decide when you speak to the seller if he/she gives you the feeling that they're trying it on with you.Go with your gut feeling-if in doubt walk away-there's plenty more sv's out there to choose-don't get misty eyed with the first few you see and spend your money on a bad one:smt018.
