You can try checking the part numbers for Gen 1 vs later bikes, this site is pretty good for that:

It'll be worth checking the steel plates for any signs of rusting or 'blueing' from heat / slipping. The steels must also all be flat, or the clutch will drag: lay each one on a sheet of glass to...
