Metalwork

I never did metalwork at school and maybe because of that I find watching metal being worked fascinating.

Here's 30 minutes of lathes, drills, routers, presses, welding as 3 Honda 50 engines are...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

:)

Yes. :(

According to the Telegraph, Truss wants to cut taxes again in the Spring.

What happened to living within your means?
What happened to the Party of fiscal responsibility?
Do...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

To me, this is the whole point of people banding together to form a society. If we are not going to provide help for those who need it, what's the point?

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

On the one hand this is a smile - the is now only $1.09 which gives me a bigger pension. On the other hand this is terrible news for the country. I guess the foreign exchange markets were...

Re: Yamaha conundrum

I now know the answer to that question.

My plan basically worked on one side but on the other side I had made the mistake of rolling the o ring instead of sliding it which seemed to imbue it...

Re: Yamaha conundrum

This was my initial thought but having studied pix of my bike from new I am now less sure. I had briefly fitted a lowering kit and raised the stanchions in the triple clamps not knowing about the o...

Re: Suzuki Warranty

As someone who is picky/fussy about the condition of their newly purchased bikes, I empathise and am horrifed by every uncovered blemish I find on them. This paint loss would annoy me, but on the...

Re: Smile of the day - What is yours?

That is some impressive mileage. I can't remember what new chain I had fitted but I suspect it won't last as long as the original since I've noticed that its tension varies slightly already as the...

Too fast?

I dropped off my Yam forks at JWR suspension and bumped into a friend I don't see often. He was telling me he just sold his Ducati V4 (Panigale?) because it was too fast. At 100mph it was doing 7k...

Re: Yamaha conundrum

Looking at an older MT-07 service manual since they use the same part number o ring in a similar location. On that model the o ring is not inside the ear/shroud it is trapped between the lower...

This is what it looks like and where the O rings sit:

Re: Yamaha conundrum

No, it's the bottom O ring that's the issue. The O ring's purpose is to be trapped between the ear and the stanchion so it's a tight fit. Once the stanchion is raised up through the lower triple...

Re: Yamaha conundrum

Unfortunately, the ears are fairly tightly sandwiched between the upper and lower triple clamps (you can lever a gap about the thickness of the O ring), so you can push the O ring to where it belongs...

Re: SV650X/Gladius interchangeable parts?

If you mean the SV with the small fairing and the lower bars, then it is the SV650X.

It's hard to find parts lists for the "X" model but the US site, Revzilla has them.
Here's the 2015 Gladius:...

Re: 2019 onwards AL9 front pads?

They switched in 2019. From the current SV650 web page:

"For 2019 the ever-popular SV650 comes with improved stopping power, thanks to an upgrade to new four-piston front brake calipers."

Yamaha conundrum

I am having fitted K-Tech cartridge inserts for my Yam's front forks. I removed the stanchions without any problems but as I drop off to sleep I started thinking about how the headlamp is held on.

Re: Suzuki Warranty

I suppose it depends on how annoyed you are and how much paint has been lost. Is this the rider's seat and is it from being removed and refitted? (a pic would help). Most bikes I've owned have...

Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

They can be difficult to shake off. When I was in training in the RAF I went through a couple of dark periods. It was like walking down a very narrow, dark canyon, the walls were getting steeper,...

Am I a bad person: I have never torqued an oil filter.

Moisten the seal with oil, screw on the filter till it's tight and then one quarter turn more (by hand) - never had a problem.

The Suzuki...

Re: The Veg Plot.

A silly question about peonies. I was looking on how (much) to prune them and the article advised cutting right back to 2.5cm /1 inch.
This left me confused because cutting back 2.5cm from the end...
