Re: Gripe of the day - What is yours?

That's the whole point. They want you to buy the product for 30 more than their competitors not 5 less. So they offer you 35 cashback on the assumption that only a tiny percentage of customers...

Nothing to do with them coming from a country with no mountains then.

Re: The wrong direction?

That's rubbish. They're supercharging a 6 litre V8 engine and barely getting over 100 horsepower per litre. So disappointing. Even the Porsche Cayenne S E-hybrid will beat it to 60mph with a biker...

Re: The future (economics)

Not just overpopulation. There's also increasing expectations and diminishing natural resources. Together that's a recipe for trouble.

Re: The future (economics)

I only skimmed through the Yahoo article, but I didn't see anything new or exciting.

In summary, there are too many people in the world wanting the lifestyle we currently have in the west. As a...

Re: if it ain't BoZo

First past the post was all our systems could handle a almost century ago.

These days we could, in theory, have something much better at determining what people want. Unfortunately, in many cases...

Re: if it ain't BoZo

I don't think it matters who sits in the PM's chair at the moment. The 25% increase in government borrowing during the pandemic is going to restrict their spending options. From a Conservative...

Re: Policing on the cheap?

Maybe we need a scheme where a group of concerned residents share of the costs of a mobile camera which will be sited there on a random day each month. Only paying about 5% of the full cost would...

Re: But cyclists.....

I assume that the cyclists killed by motor vehicles while doing some thing stupid count as 'caused by cars/lorries'. :smt096

"Health and Social Care levy" - is it just another tax??

OK, time to get your political opinions out and talk some complete bull.

Is the planned Health and Social care levy going to make any difference or is it just another tax?

The idea of a 1.25%...

Re: Ulez

I just looked at the pre-73 cars available on Ebay, and any that I would consider driving cost more than getting a little electric runabout. But it would be pretty stylish to turn up in one of these:...

Re: But cyclists.....

So first off we need some police officers who are able to stop a cyclist who rides through a red light, i.e. police bikers. Then we need the willingness to actually do some enforcement, which is ever...

Re: But cyclists.....

The worst one I've seen was a cyclist who pulled out straight in front of a bus.

The bus driver managed to stop in time, but for a moment I thought they would be sending the cyclist home in a...

Re: Next!

The UK national debt is a serious heap of money. Assuming a per-capita distribution, Scotland would be responsible for about 180 billion. That's in a completely different league to the 39 billion...

Re: Next!

On the subject of an independant Scotland, the choice of currency is the least of the issues.

Top of my list of contentious issues is division of the UK national debt. The obvious choice would be...

Re: Next!

For the Labour party the incentive to keep Scotland as part of the UK is clear. Historically, Scotland has returned a lot of Labour MPs. Without those votes it could be a very long time until we see...

Re: Next!

Easy answer. Get the SNP to campaign for a referendum south or the border on whether to split with Scotland. They just need to explain how much Scotland costs the rest of the UK, and everyone south...

Re: Highway Code changes

I think you'll find that in the new highway code, "Get in lane early" has been replaced with "Drive like a **** and push in at the front of the queue every time. Then get really p1$$y when nobody...

Re: Asimov quote

I like, "“Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.” but in current times this might be more appropriate.

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread...

Re: Electric Vehicles

Nope, overpopulation results in slum conditions as seen in London during Victorian times with the poor crammed several families to a single house.

If I was to ascribe it to anything, I would...

Re: Electric Vehicles

To be specific, more demand than supply.

In London, where there is continually more demand than supply, house prices will rise until enough people are priced out of the market to bring supply and...
