Yay! New reg/rec arrived yesterday. Won't have a chance to fit it though till Thursday as Jan and I are away for a few days.

Reg/rec is back with Electrex World now, so I'm just waiting to hear from them. Hoping to have a working item back asap so I can put the bike back on the road!

Just spoken with Electrex World and they've asked me to send the reg/rec back for testing, so I'll have to get it off the bike and packaged up. :-(

Right so 3 readings taken between the alternator wires for a no load, unregulated test. All readings broadly similar @5000rpm - 85 - 90v. Book states a min of 60v.

The charge appears to have held overnight and the battery is showing 13.7 volts with the engine off and no load. Engine on with no load at voltage showed 14.45v. With the lights on that dropped to...

Battery is now showing fully charged so I'll switch off the charger and see if it holds the charge overnight.

Hmmm. The battery has been on charge since about 5.45pm, it's now just coming up to 10pm and it's still not charged. The orange light is still showing on the charger. I'm going to see how it looks in...

I can report that I now have a fully functioning charging system again. Just took the bike into Welshpool and back it's all working a treat.

It is Craig. I also think it's done well, given the propensity of these older type reg/recs for expiring. 106,000 miles - I don't think it owes me anything.

It's definitely the reg/rec. Everything else tests ok. Took it off the bike this afternoon and the resin back is showing signs of heat, it's all cracked.

When I bought an new reg/rec from Electrex World for my little 400 gixer, they sent me one of them for nothing. It get's rid of of potential poor connections on a whole length of, by now, old wires.

I've had the main connections apart and they all look good. I gave them a spray of contact cleaner and a few drops of ACF50 any way.

I'm going to make up a cable to take the reg/rec output...
