Coming back to the SV fold
As one or two of you know I (re)started my biking on an SV650 about 4 years ago.
I got a bit cocky on that lovely bike and bought a Bandit 1200. That was a great bike in many ways, but a bit of a big and heavy beast. Then I had a day on a borrowed GSXR600 and fell for the itsy bitsy little rocket so bought by own GSXR 750. Great fun for a while, fast and nippy. But I always had my doubts about me really being a Sportsbike rider.
Then last saturday I went on a track day on the GSXR. Now I know that to many people this is what pocket rockets are made for and it's the chance to show that bike and the friends watching, what you are made of.
Well I found out that I'm not made of the stuff that speed freak, knee down, rocket riders are. I went quite fast and I learned to ride fast smoothly. But I really didn't like it that much. I don't see the point of 140+ mph.
So I went to the local bike shop yesterday to see what bike was really me. Test rode the K5 SV650.
All I can say is I was grinning from the moment I left the shop until I switched off the engine on returning. I'd forgotten how much fun these bikes are. I felt that it was a bit slow on the bypass, but then I checked the speedo and it was nearly into three figures! And my confidence at chucking it round the bends was huge. And this was with it all standard (boy, is that can quiet).
Soon as finances and a trip to Ireland allow I'm getting an SV650! Can't wait.
ps - that seat is still as uncomfortable as an ironing board tho. Might be the first mod
