Default "Fuel" can for a pointy - Noise Measurements

For anyone wondering the usual questions about replacing their standard anchor sorry - end can, here is some visual information for you. Please bear with the pics since they were snapped on a camera phone.

Well, to start off with, you will know how big/ round / shiny / ugly etc your original can is/ was, so I won't post pictures of that.

The well packed box of goodies that awaits (standard priced Stainless Steel oval direct from www.fuelexhausts.com)....

Lets start by calibrating a sound meter in order that we can get some meaningful readings between the different states of play. The meter in question is set to "Cal" and is adjusted if necessary to read 94.0dB like so....

Next, record the standard cans peak sound level at idle.....

And then at 5k on the tacho....

Carefully remove the standard can as instructed (using an angle grinder in my case with the right peg, brake lever etc removed for easier access) and measure without any silencer at 5k....

After fitting the new oval stainless silencer, measure again at idle with the baffle in...

And again at 5k...

After removing the single nut and bolt to remove the baffle (simple!) repeat again - idle.....

And finally at 5k.....

Straight pictures of the can in place now. First of all from the side...

From the front....

And finally- from the rear quarter.....

All silencer sound measurements were taken with the meter mounted rigidly exactly 0.5m from the outlet. Haven't riden her yet, since not only was it throwing down when I did the job, but I had to let the silicone sealant used cure off. That in addition to being tied up at work, has left me awaiting the chance for a test run!

Hope this is helpful......

Cheers,
Garry
