Relocating the Massive
OK here comes tonights central london hotspot (or not) report.
Broadwick Street - indeed there is a large bike bay, at around 11.30 this evening there were 4 scooters in it. Area was fairly quiet when I was there, there are a few pubs etc around. Got asked by a girl if she and her boyfriend could come for a ride round the block (on the bike before you get any ideas...). There is a coffee show nearby that closes at 5.30pm, and a Pret which wasn't open when I was there. Access in is pretty easy, follow the signs to Parking Broadwick and once you pass the John Snow pub bay is on left hand side.
Rathbone place - Bike bay is fairly small, probably 7 or 8 bikes, it also had 4 scooters in it, although the parking bays are unrestricted from 6.30pm onwards monday - saturday, so additional parking is possible. Several pubs and lots of restuarants in the area, not too many people walking around at 11:45 or so, but as said before probably busier on a friday. No coffee shops immediately obvious, there probably are some but I couldn't see any. There is also a bigger bike bay a little way round the corner in Percy Street, is close to Tottenham Court Road, but no idea what the walkpast is like. Access not as easy, might lose a few en route.
Denmark Street - No bike bay in Denmark Street itself, there are a couple of car bays that have no restriction after 6.30pm but suspect these will be full some fridays. 1 bar/cafe which might do coffees etc called 12 bar cafe, couple of resturants. Not many people walking past.
Opposite Denmark Street (in road off of Charing Cross Road/Tottenham Court Road, next to Foyles bookstore, not sure of road name) there is a big bike bay. Rock/Metal bar across the street, lots of walk past (not just hairy metallers). Had 6 bikes in it this evening around midnight, suspect it might be quite busy early Friday evening. Could be worth a shot. Access easy, straight off TCR.
Russell Street (just off Covent Garden) - Big bike bay, busy during day but generally space during evening. Several bars in close proximity and somewhat busier than Southampton Road (or where we met before). Coffee shops a little walk away, there are a few. Busy up til about midnight. Access relatively easy.
Sadly, I won't be able to come along this week so I'll leave any decision to the masses.
Cheers,
MT
