Getting correctly fitting gear is very important, especially if/when you have an accident. It takes a while breaking in new gear, give it a week or so and if you are still having problems, take the gear back and get something different.

Personally I dislike thick winter gloves, I don't like the way I feel almost disconnected to whats going on with the bike. I've now got a pair of winter Racer gloves. They are almost as thin as summer gloves and yet 100% waterproof and nice and warm. Unfortunately I suffer from cold hands so in winter I usually wear a pair of silk inner gloves too.
