But in the very worst of winter I find heated jacket, glove inners, winter gloves and heated wraparounds on the grips works for me.

i can confirm to an extent, someone i know at uni did a study on body heat and stuff,
more importantly, keeping your head warm, as this is where most heat is lost will keep more heat in, therefore, your fingers and toes wont get as cold.
