I was also thinking that it sounded like someone was under the thumb a tad, but I've met Mike, and he's a decent guy, so I would never insinuate something like that :P

Personally, I avoid buying the Mrs new underwear, because it's such a minefield. It's not really difficult to find something she would like, but you can put money on it that if it's more riske, and she's not in that mood when she opens the package, it'll be greated with a roasting, regardless of if she later wears said garment. Same applies if it's not riske.
Presents for the Mrs are usually things a little more adventurous. Like a track day in a car (but shush! She doesn't come to the forum!) I have been known to send her on a spa day though (summer time, kids went to see grand parents for the day, and I spent all day playing in the twisties by Rhosniger
