Cheers Chunky, I did it anyway and the forks are ready to go on. My mate made me some new spacers at 80mm and the overall length is the same. The flat washer was just above the top of the forks before I put the tops on with the preload adjuster wound right off. I can increase preload easily now if needed or can cut the spacers down if they are too long. Thanks for the reassurance mate.
