I've always avoided them, but for some reason I seem to find myself trundling along on the Daytona in 4th gear quite alot, when I could quite happily be in 6th. I had a factory fitted gear indicator on my first big bike, a Suzuki GT750L, back in 1981, and then again on a GSX750EFE in '87 - neither was reliable, but I hear things have got better.
