Firstly:
KitKat...If your Lad wants Halo 3 then sorry but someones gonna have to fork out for a 360 as it's NOT going to be released onto Xbox original.
To play on Xbox Live...the best route is to go into a GAME store near you and they have a pack in which is a Headset and 12 month subscription to Xbox Live with Gold account so he can do battle against people worldwide. You'll also need an ethernet cable going from the port on the back of the xbox into either your PC / Laptop or Router. Then just follow the destructions in the box to set it up. You WILL need a a VISA card or some form of credit card to register though.

OMG OMG OMG Counting down to september 26th already...
The Beta although only a sample of the game meets all my expectations..The graphics are far better than Halo 2.
The Weapons have seriously evolved, There's now:
rocket pod: Big gun that kinda looks like a mini-gun but fires 8 missiles individually. Cannot be reloaded and slows the player down but what an impact it makes.
Nail Grenade: Fanbloody tastic, spreads like a frag, sticks like a plasma. Great for pinning to walls or the bullet shields.
Auto Rifle (forgot name): taken from the original Halo game but spiced up a bit visually. Constant fire but innacurate at any sort of distance.
Bubble Shield: Great device, drop it on the floor and it powers up a dome around you that cannot be fired into or out of. Enemy team have to run into the bubble to kill you.
Grav lift: like the bubble shield you can pick it on the level. Drop it ANYWHERE on the level and you can Launch into the air / over walls / up a cliff and get the jump on enemy.
Mongoose: Bloody fast but no firepower unless youre taking a pillion...and if you do, make sure they have a rocket pod.
Turrets: Great new thing in the game...you can pick up the turrets as well as using them stationary..Running round with a mini-gun doesn't really give other team a chance unless they snipe you
Nailer (i think): like the needler but non-homing, you can dual yield and mess people up pretty well with these.
Spartan Laser: Bloody hard to use on 0other players running round but devastating against vehicles...you have toi hold the trigger to 'warm-up' ythe laser and after about 4-5 secs it fires off, blows the warthogs to pieces in 1 shot
Man Cannon: Like the grav lifts but fires you forward into the battle field, nothing more satisfying than sniping someone flying towards you.
Land mine: can only be dropped on the floor but if someone steps on it they're mincemeat...as are vhicles that run over it.
Energy Drainer: Drop it on the floor and it strips the other teams shields so it's a headshot frenzy
Other things like the single weapon reload are a blessing, on halo 2 you ran out of bullets on one smg then had to wait for the other to run out before reloading both..not now. Deaths are far more realistic...you hit someone in the head witha snipe and they'll fall backwards, stick someone or rocket them and they're taking flying lessons.
