I always used to try for 7th gear and considered getting one, but now I find that a glance at the tacho and speedo lets me know if i'm in 6th already, usually after a slow bit of traffic and i can't remember how many I shifted down.

TBH, the times i forget are the times when i wouldn't want to be glancing down at the clocks anyway (i.e. round the twisties etc).
