Depends how much you want I would think - I don't have experience of selling much (I think I've sold 1 thing in 7 odd years) but buying, and watching other auctions that I've been interested in, shows that everyone on Ebay wants a bargain (stating the obvious, I know).
Due to that - if you start it with a price closer to what you want, then it might just be too high to be seen as a bargain, and it won't sell - but if you start it at 99p with a reserve near to what you want, and you DON'T reveal your reserve like some people do, it seems to entice bidders in...and in my case I will watch that auction instead of just ignoring it because it's too high.
