If you feel that's a bit high, maybe you could secretly put part of that away and keep it for him for any sudden big expenses, or a deposit on a property in the future.

I was an apprentice too, we earn far far too much lol! in 4 years he'll be coming out debt free and with a decent set of qualifications.
1/3 is what my olds wanted, however i struck up a deal and proved that i was paying into a 'fake mortgauge' so as to get my foot on the ladder. worked too.
i still paid my olds £150 a month to help with food etc (that i was never there to eat lol)
