Shocking...but unfortunately nothing new....
I lived in Jeddah for 5 years, and every weekend in the city there were public beheddings and amputations...
Often theft is dealt with by chopping off a hand...mind you, they have come on in leaps and bounds - I believe now you may have an option to choose a sugical amputation rather than a hairy chap with a big axe....
Now thats progress
However, our Govt still wants to do business with them eh?
Oh just something else....not sure if this is still the case but, when I was there (late 80's early 90's) some of the richest folk were camel jockeys (big business over there). They tend to be young lads, from 8 up to 15 or so, and have mountains of money to spend. We were in a pretty bad car accident once when a kid in a ferrari decided to to a U turn on the motorway (no central reservations). We went into the back of him at about 70, both cars written off, hospital treatment required, and the driver was about 10 years old...there were no driving tests back then...
Funny thing is, my dad got prosecuted, as, if a foreigner is in an accident, its automatically your fault!!! -Dad ended up in the cells for a night with a broken jaw and fractured skull...
Just another example of the local law....
