Just to be pedantic, I've never seen any fibre-cement, cement or clay water pipes - they cant withstand the working pressure or flexibility required for water pipes (not to mention the water quality implications from fiber cement / pitch fibre, sometimes asbestos). These are usually reserved for sewerage or surface water applications.
Most older pipes will be cast or ductile iron.
