That's exactly how I did it too. Worked well, if it's any use I used a TDK minidisk case
I actually found in a crash it meant the plastic snapped and the indicator ripped away and was lost, but the fairing wasn't damaged- the OEM indicators work like little plastic anvils and break the fairings sometimes.
