The cop who checked me wanted to make sure lights, indicators, brakes work & checked the tyres (good job i put new tyres on about 3 weeks ago).
Slight upside is, everyone who had thier bike checked got a token for a free brew at the butty van.
Be safe out there & happy riding, Alan

Sounds like very efficient use of council tax funding to me!
More seriously, it's probably part of a periodic planned campaign and, nowadays, it's to be expected at any popular meet. Thankfully, from what you wrote, there seemed to be a realistic safety bias - do you really want to ride with dodgy lights/brakes/tyres?
