Hmm, interesting. Something's seriously screwed up if that's the case. I get between 35 and 42 mpg averaged over a tank (and that's worked out manually, not what the computer says) out of a 2.5 V6 audi A4 diesel made in '99. My main drive is about 5 miles of urban + 40 miles of national speed limit twice a day. And I'm definitely "average" in the car, ie. not particularly fussed about ragging it everywhere but also not trying to be super economical.
If a car nearly 10 years newer, half the size, and half the horsepower is only just breaking that, are they sure they've not just wedged a brick onto the gas pedal?
