You might find it worth trying bar end mirrors... When mine's got its fairing off I use a ?6 Cateye mountain bike bar end mirror, they really work well. They're more out of your field of vision though so it takes a moment longer for me to glance and use the information from them, but still, they're pretty cool. I might leave one on permanently to supplement the standard S mirrors. I've used them with my top box, no probs.
