apparently 20mph above any given limit is referred to magistrates. So on a single carriageway national limit of 60mph, anything upto 80mph is 3 points and ?60 but anything above, the officer can send you to a magistrate for stiffer sentencing.

Having said that, I watched an episode of roadwars on sky three where a mercedes driver undertook 9 cars at around 90mph then swerved in at the last minute, nearly caused an accident and then started undertaking again when unmarked copper pulled him. The copper decided to let him off because the guy had to drive alot as part of his job.
