If the key was damaged enough to allow the rotor to move relative to the crank then the bolt would have to be loose and the rotor detached from the taper - I'd be surprised if it ran at all.
As Tim rightly says the key is only there to locate the rotor when fitting it - it plays no part in driving the rotor once correctly fitted.
