Easier said than done, they're a bit of a git to get to.

Apparently, putting it in gear and rocking it backwards slightly can let the tensioner click out another notch. No idea whether it works or whether it's safe, though it does make sense.

They all make a bit of noise though, ljharmit had a video out at one point with what they sound like when they're about to go pop expensively. More of a "slapslapslap" than any tappety type noise. They need quite a bit of slack to jump teeth and hurt things!
