I filled it with new (Castrol "racing") oil upto the full line (with bike vertical) and then started it up - all the oil disappeared and sucked up inside the engine. Turned it off and saw the oil level had dropped again so topped it up a bit more.
Now, when the engine is off & the bike is vertical, the oil level is about 2mm above the full mark, but it's not completely above the glass window. When the engine is on, the oil level drops right down the the bottom marker on the glass window. I can't remember if this is normal so could anyone confirm if I need to do anything else?

Leave your engine til its fully coild to see where it settles. don't put anymore in. It won't do much harm, I've accidently overfilled mine once..she burnt it off.
When you change the oil, then turn it on, it goes round the engine and settles round various parts etc, so doesn't give you an acurate reading. Always check your oil when the engines cold or slightly warm...a more accurate reading. Not hot after a long time on idle etc, it gets more fluid and hides
p.s well done on the oil change though..I have two girly hands and can't usually get the sump bolts to budge...which is why i always ask nice YCs to help
