So what does he do. Sign on?

What happens about his mortgage payments/insurance etc. Lots of commitments and no income.

So he is scrambling round the internet getting numbers and calling. It seems to be the same everywhere "Sorry we are not taking on".
If he is going to struggle, speak to any creditors sooner rather than later. Mortage provider etc are more likely to be prepared to assist if he asks to restructure his payment plan whilst he is up to date, rather than leaving it until (if) he is in arrears and well up the proverbial creek.

he should also sign on asap, as well as obviously looking for other work. As previously advised, any income is better than none, so shouldn't limit himself to just looking for tiling work, especially in the current climate. And good luck to him!
