If I was 18 again and my friend was given a Bemmer and an R1 by their parents, I would be jealous. Now, I'm glad my parents didn't do things like that for me as I think I appreciate the value of money more. The impression given is that he is spoiled - maybe he's not.

I'm not concerned for his safety - lots of people buy large bikes when they are young and are fine with it. I do wonder though if he would appreciate it as much as if he had to save and buy it himself.
