More often than not the parts are handed down to a lower team the year or Two after and the main part of the bike usually ends up in the factory Museum . These bikes are Multi-Million pound development machines in a constant state of flux in a fickle market . They would want to get as much profit out of them in terms of racing . So `A` teams get a year or so use out of them and then `B`teams may get the cast offs . Some teams have an `A` bike for a couple of years to keep as a backup and comparison to this year`s bike . After that it wouldn`t matter who saw it as everybody would have moved on to the next big thing . They run more of a chance of their suppliers giving any advantage away such as Ohlins or Termignoni . At one point Ohlins used to be owned by Yamaha so they could probably trust them not to give too much away . But I wouldn`t fancy having pipes made by Termignoni with Ducati having a massive stake in the company and possible access to the Data logs .
In my opinion that bike is more than likely what is left over of the external shell , There is probably nothing of any use whatsoever inside the engine/suspension/electronics . Still , a nice little find for those guys but as they always seem to say , if it appears too good to be true , it is .
