I have a theory that chain lube that doesn't fling isn't working its way into the rollers and actually lubricating like it's meant to. If it's just sitting there like a solid then it's not moving around and getting into where it needs to be. I'd rather have a little fling and know the job's being done - besides, if the rear wheel gets mucky then it's a good excuse to give the bike a clean.
Personally, I love scottoilers and wouldn't own a commuter bike wthout fitting one to it - I even have one on my little 250 single.
