You'd think that wouldnt you? But the early Xbox consoles had curcuitry done using poor quality solder (high in lead i think), and localised hot-spots inside the console (causing things to expand at differant rates...you know the score) caused connections to physically break. My mate found a forum suggesting wrapping the xbox on a towel and turning it on - several people reported success. He has nothing to loose anyway! With no heat being able to escape, the whole console got hot, not just localised parts. So everything could melt back together I suppose
