I must admit, there were some questionable conditions out there - the worst of it being the snowmelt running off the hills straight across the roads. I thought the first time I saw it that there was a bust water main up ahead.

That sort of thing knocks your confidence a little straight away, because you're not sure whether its water or ice initially. Once you've taken that knock, it takes a bit of time to get it back, but the next bend is just as bad.
