If it took a chuck out of your toe sliders, rather than a scrape, maybe you actually just kicked the top of a large stone. Sliders make your toe more likely to touch down too as the toe of the boot is wider on the outside.

I can't be bothered with juggling gear changes/braking and lifting the balls of my feet back onto the pegs between each gear or corner, and I'm tall so instep on pegs is most comfortable, and I've got big feet, so my toes are down all the time.

I still **** myself every year about March time when the toes touch down on dry roads for the first time since November, then maybe the second time too, after that you just think tight corner = toes down.
