We get so many punctures at work 'cos we're always on and off the hard shoulder - which also has it's fair share of detritus I know, but those bumps act like a crud catcher for sharp things.
On an even more worrying point, if you cross that solid white line at the junction, you *could* get three points and a £60 fine off a very harsh traffic Cop.

Im gonna have to get that highway law book thing, cos Im finding out all sorts on here that I never knew.
Did you know those signs on the side of the road that have numbers in? well if you bike has a bigger number on its speedo then you get done for that some times too!
Seriously though, genuinly didnt know you could get points for cutting a chevron. I do it daily as it keeps me further away from the cueing traffic.
