If you cut a bit off the can will slide further forward and will "tip out" a little further.

Hmm, could be a good idea. The exhaust didn't come with any instructions so I cut the pipe 50mm from the weld. I'll take it all apart tomorrow and try to work out what would happen if I cut a bit more pipe off.
The trouble is I don't want to cut to much off and end up with no exhaust at all
