I think the issue here is most definitely riding style rather than a fault with the bike. You need to learn to ride smoothly. The idea is to have a good average speed achieved by having a high minimum speed, not a high maximum speed. I have 2 1000sK3's and they both return a long term average of better than 55MPG having covered over 80K miles between them. This means I get 155+ miles before the reserve comes on and on occasion 170+ miles. Sure, I can have the reserve light on in less than 100 miles but that sort of riding is neither safe nor legal on the public highway. To show you what I mean, consider this. I get 13K out of a front pilot sport, 6.5K out of a rear pilot sport, 25K out of a set of front pads and 45K out of a set of rear pads. Just stop giving it full throttle everywhere, lay off the brakes by forward planning and reap the benefits.
