The idea of accelerating out comes from dirt biking - they technique is to keep the front wheel light/wheeling slightly to track over bumps and avoid tankslappers.

If you have a proper slapper (and not just a wiggle of the bars) remember to check your front brakes before you need to use them as the force can push the pistons back into the caliper.
