This has come up before, however the problem is sample size.

Some SV's never ever blow a reg/rec. Other reg/recs fail relatively early on. Suzuki have mounted reg/recs to the engine in the past where you'd assume heat would be more oppressive and they've been no less reliable.

So when someone says: "I've fitted a cooling fan, and 6 months later my reg/rec is fine" it doesn't actually help, that reg rec may have been good for 10 years of hard service without a fan.

However, I can't think of a reason not to do this, provided you're sensible about how you wire in the fan, so that it won't run with the ignition off, but so that if it shorts it should not short out the main live ignition, Anciliaries like the main live for indicators etc are common ones.
