The great thing about the Scotty is that you don't need to remember to lube the chain before a 300 mile ride. No matter how fastidious you are about lubing your chain, it is not the same a continous lubrication from a chain oiler. I have always had them on my bikes, only had one problem in many thousands of miles and that was due to operator error (ie I messed up). My current VFR had the chain adjusted for the first time at 21K miles.
