I see your point to an extent, but with today modern materials I would have thought the extremes were just what it was developed for ?

But you're right it's getting away from the OP question.

I don't really suffer from this as these days not only do I use robust liners I have 4 pairs of boots to rotate should the need arise , however as far as drying goes, I've found any leather suffers if dried to quickly, my bathroom has underfloor heating through quite heavy tiles and is left on all year round, a side effect is a very gentle heat perfect for drying wet leathers and boots.
