Anyhoo, as a good example of how these things work and how govts try to keep themselves at arms length from it, even tho they got the ball rolling in the first place, try and find the documentary that Ch4 aired recently about Simon Mann and his coup attempt. I think it was called The Trial Of Simon Mann or something similar and you may find it on the Ch4 website perhaps.
Alternatively go into any good bookshop and look under MI5/6 topics and you'll find plenty, i just cant think of a title off the top of my head accept The Secret Wars, which to be honest with you i found a rambling and badly written history of the spy services of the UK and the US. the book itself could have been half as long if it didnt ramble all over the place and repeat itself in various chapters.
