Yes and no.

My dad is an unqualified accountant, and still deals with plenty of things (but he is qualified by experiance I guess)

I know alot of the training jobs want at least 18 months experiance...and if you want a trainee role a lot of people don't have the experiance in an accounts role.

AAT is a good way to do it, can get AAT in a year if you study hard, or 3 years if you slack and do it as the college tells you.

Insofar as accounts being fun in my spare time...I do actually enjoy it. You are right, the insolvency service does give rise to some interesting cases, and the job in itself is interesting anyway.

Is it bad that I find accounts interesting?
