Claire, i know i didnt go and i have only done a few rideouts but 1 thing IMO is the TEC has to be seen otherwise situations like you described will keep happening.
The ones i have been on nobody has ever been lost and every junction has been impeccably marked as directed by the leader.
Hi vis should be compulsory.
